くま【隈】

1 〔すみ･奥まった所〕 a recess; a corner; a nook.

●山[谷]のくま the recesses of a mountain [valley].

2 〔かげ〕 (a) shade; a part in shadows; a shadow; 〔ぼかし〕 shading; 【美】 dark; 〔隈取り〕 makeup. [⇒くまどり 2]

●月のくま the dark of the moon.

●彼女の目の下[まわり]にはくまができていた. There were (black [dark]) rings [(black) circles, dark areas] under [around] her eyes.
